Qualification Testing
NKT Flexibles participated in the development of API Spec. 17J and we use this specification as design code for all flexible pipes used for the oil and gas industry. In order to cover a wide range of applications a Type Approval Programme was agreed upon with Bureau Veritas, who acted as the independent 3rd party verification body during the entire Qualification Test Programme.
The Qualification Test Programme encompassed a wide range of static as well as dynamic fatigue tests successfully verifying the integrity of the flexible pipe and end-fittings. The capability to predict the failure mode combined with a high degree of consistency between calculated and actual test results have confirmed NKT Flexibles’ design methodology and analytical tools.
Sour Service Test Facility
A delicate knowledge of capabilities and limitations of materials is fundamental when producing products like flexible pipes, which are operating in the harshest environments.
The sour service laboratory is dedicated for testing in environments containing hydrogen sulphide (H2S). The permanent test set up includes:
- Test for Sulphide Stress Cracking (SSC)
- Test for Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC)
- Test for corrosion fatigue
- Test of Corrosion Resistant Alloys (CRA)
- H2S Permeation
